HAYDEN MESNICK

Hayden Mesnick (he/they; b. 2002) is a composer, pianist, accordionist, and educator based in Ohio. He received his B.M. in Music Composition from Bowling Green State University, where he studied composition with Piyawat Louilarpprasert, Elainie Lillios, Mikel Kuehn, Marilyn Shrude, Christopher Dietz, and piano with Ariel Kasler and Yevgeny Yontov. His interests as a composer include improvisation, polystylism, drones, and absurdism. His music has been premiered by individuals and ensembles such as the BGSU Horn Club, Justin Brown, Brandon Gouin, Joshua Lyphout, Abigail Petersen, Marc Perez, McKenzie Squires, Ashley Walters, and more.

As a performer, he has premiered works by himself, Victor Cabezas, Andrew Junttonen, Joshua Lyphout, Joseph Miller, and others, and he has worked with various ensembles, including BGSU’s Afro-Caribbean Music Ensemble, Early Music Ensemble, Middle Eastern Ensemble, and New Music Ensemble. He has experience with numerous musical traditions, including jazz, free improvisation, contemporary concert music, rock, maqam, and more.
